Equipment

  • Steamer
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Medium bowl
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Measuring cups
  • Mixing utensil

Ingredients

  • 1.2 pounds fresh green beans
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly crushed black pepper
  • ¼ cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ cup sliced almonds raw or toasted

Instructions

  • Rinse the green beans and drain. Using a sharp knife, cut the tips of the green beans and any blemishes.
  • Fill the bottom of a steamer pot with water. About 2 to 3 inches full. Bring to a boil.
  • Place the green beans in the steamer, the part that has the holes. Place it over the pot with boiling water, and cover. Allow the green beans to steam for 10 to 20 minutes or until they turn into bright vivid green in color, and are absolutely crispy. Flip the green beans around every 2 to 3 minutes to ensure even cooking. Taste the green beans once you think they are done. If you feel that they still have a raw flavor, allow them to steam for a couple minutes longer.
  • Once the green beans are done steaming, immediately remove from the steamer, and rinse under cold running water to stop the cooking process. Once the green beans are cool, set them aside to drain fully. You can lay them on the cutting board or a kitchen towel to remove any remaining liquid.
  • Once the green beans are fully drained, add them to a medium bowl along with all the seasoning. Give them a quick toss, and you’re done!
  • Serve this green bean salad as a side dish on your Thanksgiving or Christmas table, or any day of the week.
