Jump to RecipeWhat is Buffalo Wings Sauce Made of
- Hot Sauce
- Butter balances out the spiciness, and adds in that creamy delicious texture that we all love.
- Garlic powder
- Worcestershire Sauce adds in a unique flavor.
- Honey balances out the acidity in the sauce and adds in a hint of sweetness.
- White vinegar also balances out the spiciness, making it more palatable and more pleasurable of an experience for those who do not like extra spicy food.
So if you want the sauce to be a bit less spicy, you can add a little more vinegar and a bit more honey.

How to Make Buffalo Wings Sauce

- Once the butter is melted, add in the remaining ingredients, and stir until everything is well combined.
- Bring into a gentle boil, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 10 minutes.
Notes: You will want to reheat the sauce before pouring it over the Baked Crispy Buffalo Chicken wings.
How Do You Make Wing Sauce Thicker
To make wing sauce or buffalo wing sauce thicker, you’ll need to add in a thickener of some sort.
I usually go with cornstarch if I were to thicken any sauce, but you can also use rice flour, potato starch, and tapioca starch to keep this sauce gluten free.
You’ll want to add in the thickener of your choice while the mixture is still cold. If you add it in while it’s hot, it will clump up.
Allow the thickener to simmer in with the sauce while stirring it constantly to prevent it from sticking to the bottom and clumping.
Simmering in the thickener with the sauce will allow any raw flavor to cook off, essentially making the buffalo sauce taste even better.
Do You Put Sauce on Chicken Wings Before or After You Cook Them?
Chicken wings are usually either fried or baked before any sauce touches them. frying or baking the chicken wings first allows the skin to crisp up. Crispy chicken wings’ skin is what you need to absorb all that amazing sauce. If the skin is not crispy, the sauce will slip off.
