How to Make Homemade Pasta Sauce
Seriously, there is little thinking to this recipe. It is so easy to make. If you are a person who likes to can, you can even can it.
You can also make it ahead and store it in the freezer in little freezer baggies ready to use for whenever you are craving pasta. Or,
if you just want an easy weeknight meal, make some gluten free bread with it, serve it with some salad, and now you will feel like you’re at Olive Garden!
Onion
Take the onion and dice it as small or as large as you would like it to be. I like my onions to kind of disappear in the sauce so that my kids do not notice Them. So I tend to dice them a little bit on the smaller side.
Vegetables
You could also add any other types of vegetables if you wish such as green peppers and mushrooms, but for this recipe, I like to keep it simple.
Protein
Slice the sausages to the desired size that you would like them to be. If I were making this sauce for lasagna, I would slice them into very small pieces. Because I do not want to feel as if I am eating meatballs in my lasagna.
Into a large pan, add the ground beef, sliced sausages, diced onions, and minced garlic.
Brown the meat on medium heat with the onions and garlic. The onions and garlic will use the fats that are in the ground beef and sausages to get cooked. They will also add delicious flavors to the meat.
Make sure to stir every now and then to prevent them from burning, and to brake up the ground beef as you go.
Once their completely browned, transfer the cooked mixture into a large sieve and drain all that fat.
Wine
Place the mixture into a large pot, add the white wine, and let it simmer on low for 15 to 20 minutes. This will allow any alcohol that is present in the wine to evaporate, and you will not have to worry about it if you have any little ones.
If you want to add extra vegetables to this dish, you can add them in a couple minutes before you add the wine, and let them simmer with the meat and wine.
The Sauce
Add in the tomato puree, tomato sauce and most of the seasonings, and let it simmer for 30 minutes.
Add the leafy seasoning such as the parsley and oregano at the last 10 minutes along with the extra virgin olive oil.
If you make this sauce the night before, and use it the next day, it will even taste better.
As it sits, all these delicious flavors will have the chance to continue to mingle together giving you the best sauce that you’ve ever dreamed of. Just allow it to sit in the fridge overnight, and use it the next day.
You can use this pasta sauce on your favorite gluten free pasta, spaghetti squash, zoodles, in my Lasagna Recipe, or maybe just eat it on its own which is what I like to do sometimes.
