Soy Dipping Sauce

This Soy dipping sauce is so versatile. It can be used for dipping tuna cakes, fish cakes, spring rolls, rice, or almost anything. It adds a refreshing flavor to many Asian based dishes, and it enhances their flavor. It can be easily adapted, and it is a must have with many of these dishes.

This is my go to soy dipping sauce. It is so light and refreshing.

The preparation is so simple. All you have to do is just mix a few ingredients and you’re done.

The main ingredient in here is of course soy sauce. There are many gluten free soy sauce options these days, but my favorite thing to use is liquid aminos.

I haven’t tried the coconut aminos yet, so I can’t say yay or nay for it. If you are looking for a soy alternative, liquid aminos is a pretty safe bet.

When choosing the vinegar, you’ll have to decide whether you want a more tangy or a less tangy flavor.

I personally like this soy dipping sauce to be on the tangier side, so I use white vinegar. If you want your dipping sauce to be less tangy, you can use rice vinegar instead since it has a milder flavor than the white vinegar.

If you want an even milder tangy flavor, instead of adding equal amounts of soy sauce to vinegar, you can add half the amount of vinegar that is suggested in the recipe, or simply double the amount of soy sauce.

The onions and garlic give this dipping sauce another layer of flavor. I love the intense flavor that they add to the dish especially when you bite into them and get that fresh oniony garlicy flavor.

Jalapenos, are definitely optional. In fact, most of the time I do not add them in because my kids do not like the extra spiciness, but I do love to add them in whenever possible.

Here are the list of ingredients that you will be needing for this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • Soy sauce or liquid aminos
  • White vinegar or rice vinegar
  • Diced onions
  • Garlic, roughly diced
  • Jalapeno, diced into thin circular shapes

And here are the utensils that you will be needing.

Utensils

  • Measuring cups
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Serving bowl

All that is left to do is just adding all these ingredients together in a small serving bowl. Give everything a quick mix. Cover the bowl and place it in the fridge for 10 to 30 minutes to allow it to marinate.

I like to allow the marinating process to take place. This allows the onions, garlic, and jalapeno to lend their flavors to the sauce. This way, if you do not want the fresh veggies in your dish, at least you would be getting the flavor that they have to offer.

You can now serve this dipping sauce with tuna cakes, spring rolls, over jasmine rice, or with many other Asian dishes.
