PREPARING THE DOUGH FOR THE SWISS CHARD TART

This gluten free swiss chard tart recipe is unlike you may expect. It is not made with a gluten free pie crust, or gluten free puff pastry. This swiss chard recipe is made using a gluten free sourdough pizza dough.

Hold on. Before you you jump into conclusions. This gluten free sourdough pizza crust is soo good, it is crusty, and it makes the perfect pairing with this rainbow chard recipe by lending it-it’s slight tanginess. Just make sure that you use the reduced water version.

To make sure that you are fully prepared to make this goat cheese and swiss chard tart, the first thing you’ll need is to prepare this gluten free sourdough pizza crust.

If you do not want to use a gluten free sourdough starter in making this rustic swiss chard tart and goat cheese recipe, you may be able to make it using this gluten free pie crust. This pie crust is amazing, but I can’t promise you that the results are going to be the same. I personally have never tried this recipe using a pie crust.

MATERIAL YOU’LL NEED

  • Silicone Mat to roll the pizza crust on. The silicone mat will prevent the dough from sticking to the rolling surface, and it will make it easier to transfer the dough to the baking sheet.
  • Cookie Sheet with a raised rim this type of baking sheet makes the perfect shape for this rustic swiss chard tart. You can shape the tart either to the shape of the pan, or fold the excess dough over the tart to give you this rustic feel.
  • Rolling pin to roll the gluten free pizza crust.
  • Olive oil to cover the rolling pin and the silicone mat with in order to prevent the dough from sticking.
  • Chopping board
  • Sharp knife
  • Medium bowl

PREPPING THE DOUGH FOR THE SWISS CHARD TART

To prep the gluten free sourdough pizza dough, generously oil the rolling pin. Spread a little bit of oil on one side of the silicone mat in order to prevent the dough from sticking to the silicone mat. Sticking should not happen as long as you reduce the amount of water that is used in the dough.

Place the dough onto the silicone mat. shape it into the shape of the cookie sheet, and roll it using a rolling pin to 1/8 of an inch in thickness.

Align the dough with the cookie sheet, and gently flip it onto it. Peel the silicone mat off the dough. Press the sides of the dough onto the sides of the pan to resemble the shape of the pan. Remove any excess dough. You can also decorate the edges of the dough if you desire.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 gluten free sourdough pizza dough using less water or Fluffy And Crunchy Gluten Free Pizza Crust
  • 1 lb or 1 bunch swiss chard
  • 10 oz cherry tomatoes halved
  • 10 oz goat cheese
  • 1 shallot diced
  • 1 tsp salt plus more to taste
  • ½ tsp black pepper or to taste
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 450 F.
  • Rinse and dry swiss chard thoroughly.
  • Chop swiss chard into fairly thin slices. Place it into a bowl, sprinkle with 1 teaspoon salt, and squash it with your hands until it wilts and becomes slightly soft. Allow it to sit for 10 to 30 minutes, or until it renders its juices.
  • Spread some butter onto the cookie sheet and set it aside.
  • Meanwhile, using olive oil, thoroughly oil the rolling pin, and slightly oil the silicone mat on one side. place the gluten free sourdough pizza dough onto the oiled side of the silicone mat. Using the oiled rolling pin, roll the gluten free sourdough pizza dough into the shape of the pan. The dough should be about 1/8 of an inch in thickness.
  • Align the dough with the cookie sheet, and gently flip it onto it. Peel the silicone mat off the dough. Press the sides of the dough onto the sides of the pan to resemble the shape of the pan. Remove any excess dough. You can also decorate the edges of the dough if you desire.
  • Place dough into the oven on the bottom rack and bake at 450 F for 10 minutes.
  • Squeeze out excess liquid from the swiss chard and discard the liquid.
  • Evenly sprinkle the swiss chard over the baked dough.
  • Sprinkle the diced shallot over the swiss chard.
  • Evenly distribute the cherry tomato halves over the tart.
  • Crumble the goat cheese and spread it evenly over the swiss chard tart.
  • Sprinkle the swiss chard tart with some salt and pepper to taste.
  • Drizzle with 3 tablespoons olive oil.
  • Bake at 450 F for 12 minutes.
  • Remove from oven, slice and serve while warm.

Notes

If you do not like goat cheese, you can replace it with cream cheese. If you do use cream cheese, once the tart comes out of the oven, squeeze the juice of 1 lime over the tart to give it a bit of a tart flavor.
